Above the horizon
A calculated position tells you where an object is. It cannot tell whether a tree, roof or bright lamp blocks your view from the tripod.
Your ZIP or postal code controls Astro Score, cloud cover, ISS and all personal recommendations.
Choose your country and postal code. GalaxyHunters will automatically use this location for Astro Score, cloud radar, Bortle Check, photo targets and observing alerts.
You will receive an email when observing conditions at your location are especially promising. We stay quiet on poor nights.
Your sky depends on where you are, when you go outside and what you use. Set your location and date below, then compare suitable targets, their visibility windows and a practical plan for your session.
There are usable clear spells, but clouds or humidity remain a risk.

TURN A LIST OF OBJECTS INTO A GOOD NIGHT OUTSIDE
There is no single list of objects that works everywhere. An object high above one observer can be below another observer’s horizon. The useful answer starts with your location, the night you have available and your equipment.
A calculated position tells you where an object is. It cannot tell whether a tree, roof or bright lamp blocks your view from the tripod.
An imaging target may be too faint to recognise with your eyes. A stacked photograph gathers light over time; a quick glance at the sky does not.
Cloud, haze and moonlight can change the result. Treat target suggestions and the weather assessment as separate pieces of the decision.
The planner is centred on practical observing and deep-sky imaging. Use the separate satellite tools for ISS passes; this page is not a complete live ephemeris for every moving object in the sky.
Latitude, longitude, local time, date and equipment all affect a useful shortlist. Compare those settings before assuming a different recommendation is an error.
Yes. Change the date for the target calculation. Recheck the weather near the session: today’s night assessment is not a long-range weather promise.
Moonlight can reduce the contrast of faint deep-sky targets. A bright cluster or the Moon itself may be a more satisfying choice than a very faint nebula, depending on your equipment.
All three are separate equipment choices in the existing planner. Their telephoto frames differ. Open My setup and the field-of-view simulator to check the selected model before choosing a composition.
No. The score summarises modelled conditions. Local cloud and your immediate surroundings can differ. Look outside and check the current sky before committing to a journey or a long setup.
The tool above is the existing GalaxyHunters Astro Planner, using the same catalogue and calculations. Your previous Astro Planner address remains available.
