Bright nebulae
M42, the Orion Nebula, is a useful target to explore when it is well placed. Compare the bright centre with the fainter surrounding structure instead of judging only the first preview.

The S50 Pro sits between two familiar wishes: more room around a deep-sky target than the original S50, without giving up a 50 mm aperture. Here is how that translates into planning an actual night outside.
In the planner, select Seestar S50 Pro under Smart telescope / My setup. Opening this guide does not change your saved equipment.
THE NUMBERS THAT AFFECT YOUR PLAN
| Aperture / focal length | 50 mm / 260 mm |
|---|---|
| Focal ratio | f/5.2 |
| Optics | Four-element apochromatic lens with ED glass |
| Telephoto sensor | OmniVision OS08B10 · 2160 × 3840 pixels |
| Separate wide-angle camera | Sony IMX586 · 2160 × 3840 pixels |
| Internal storage / battery | 128 GB / 10,000 mAh |
| Main unit weight | 2.8 kg |

The focal length moves only slightly, from 250 to 260 mm. The larger imaging area is the more noticeable framing change: you can include more of the surroundings without making a mosaic. That is a composition advantage, not a promise that every small target will show more detail.
If you already own an S50, look at your favourite images. Are you regularly cutting off the outer parts of objects or stitching several fields together? More framing room may solve a problem you actually have. If your main problem is cloud or a low target behind houses, a new camera will not solve it.
Use My setup and the Field-of-view simulator in the planner to try a target before the night begins. The Seestar presets describe the telephoto channel. They are not a simulation of the separate wide-angle camera or a stitched mosaic.
These are things to put on a shortlist, not a claim that they are visible tonight from every location. The planner checks your date and location; the simulator helps with framing.

M13 offers a different challenge: a compact, bright centre and many surrounding stars. Check altitude and focus, then see how the core develops as data accumulates.
M51 can be an interesting project when conditions and altitude cooperate. Expect a small subject within the field, not a close-up that fills the frame.
For emission nebulae, a suitable filter may help separate the target from a bright background. Do not assume the same approach helps a galaxy or a reflection nebula. Keep a copy of your original data before making processing changes.
No. Field of view, image scale and portability affect how you use an instrument. Compare your preferred targets and the practical setup you will carry outside. A wider scene and a smaller distant subject ask for different compromises.
Yes, but choose targets and expectations to match the sky. A good observing window, useful integration time and a target high above the horizon can be more valuable than repeatedly chasing a faint target through haze.
Only with the correct manufacturer-approved solar filter fitted securely and the device’s safety instructions followed. Never aim an unfiltered telescope at the Sun.
